Auburn perfect in girls tennis

ROCKFORD – Auburn’s Belen Nevenhoven completed a perfect NIC-10 career, rolling to her fourth straight conference tennis title on Oct. 10.

Nevenhoven beat Guilford’s Kasey Aucutt, 6-0, 6-0, in the final and her teammates were perfect as well.

The Knights went 9-0 in dual meets this year and then won both singles divisions and all three doubles divisions to score a perfect 59 points.

Phuong Pham, the winner at No. 2 singles, was the only Knight to lose a set.

Amy Park and Paris Thompson won the No. 1 doubles title. Alyssa Trapp and Maddie Harned won No. 2 doubles and freshmen Rebecca Wange and Addysen Feng won at No. 3 doubles.

Unfortunately for Nevenhoven and the Knights, their season comes to a close this weekend with the IHSA sectional tournament. Nevenhoven finished fourth in the state in 2A as a sophomore and was second last year. The coronavirus pandemic denied her the chance to become the first girls state champion in NIC-10 history.
