Auburn wins 19th straight IHSA scholastic bowl regional

ROCKFORD – The Auburn Knights extended a streak that started before there were things such as wireless headsets or the Mars Rover by winnings its 19th straight IHSA scholastic bowl regional on Monday.

There was very little drama in the Class 2A Auburn regional. The Knights beat Freeport, Stillman Valley and Hononegah by more than 400 points in each match.

Auburn has qualified for the IHSA state championship 18 straight years, winning it twice and finishing in the top four every year. Auburn has finished second the past two years.

The next step is the sectional competition, also at Auburn, on Saturday. Joining the Knights will be Belvidere and Belvidere North and Sycamore. The matches begin at 10 a.m.
