Chicagoland Summer Showcase postponed because of COVID-19

ROCKFORD – The second annual Chicagoland Summer Showcase was postponed indefinitely this week because of COVID-19.

Rockford Public Schools was selected to host an event that was expected to hundreds of recruits hoping to impress college coaches on June 26-28.

The school district was forced to postpone the event after the NCAA extended its “dead period,” meaning coaches can’t talk to recruits, until June 30.

RPS 205 is holding out hope that the National Federation of High Schools and NCAA may give a timeline to hold the showcases in July. RPS 205 will review the possibility if that happens.

The inaurgeral Chicagoland Summer Showcases, held over two weekends in 2019, drew more than 80 schools and 100 college coaches.
