Guilford star QB excelling in Texas oil industry

HOUSTON – Sean Cook, who finished second in the NIC-10 in passing at Guilford and followed that up with an outstanding Division 1 college career, is thriving in the oil industry in Texas.

In 1983, Cook passed for 1,037 yards at Guilford, leading the Vikings to a 6-3 record. He went from Rockford to Texas Southern University in Houston, where he played for four years and passed for 6,297 yards.

Cook earned his bacehlor’s degree in business administration and accounting and decided to stay in the south. He’s worked for a number of companies, including as a financial and technical risk program manager for ARES Corp., a senior pipeline consultant for Accenture¬† and scheduling and planning analyst for Boeing.

Cook joined National Oilwell Varco in Houston in December 2018. He’s now the lead global engineering scheduling supervisor for one of the world’s leaders in providing equipment and components used in oil and gas drilling.
