Guilford’s Daehler named co-girls track MVP

ROCKFORD – Guilford track and field jumper extraordinaire Valerie Daehler was named the field MVP on the all-NIC-10 girls track team.

tied for first in the high jump and won the NIC-10 long jump championship earlier this month.

Daehler was one of four Rockford Public Schools athletes named to the first team. Joining her:

  • Guilford’s Shaniah Johnson, who won the NIC-10 triple jump title and qualified for the IHSA state tournament for the second straight year.
  • East’s Kayla Wells, who won the NIC-10 pole vault title.
  • Jefferson sprinter Hazel McClinton, who finished second in the NIC-10 100- and 200-meter dashes.

RPS athletes her earned special mention were Tanajia Prowell and Tya-Noelle Diwo of East in the sprints and Isabelle Roethle of Auburn in the distance races.
