Jefferson looks to build record in MLK Showcase

ROCKFORD – The Jefferson J-Hawks are the marquee team in its own 7th annual J-Hawk MLK Showcase, which tips off tomorrow.

The Saturday-Monday hoops extravaganza features both varsity and sophomore basketball. Nine different varsity squads will play at least one game over the two days.

Of the nine schools, Jefferson appears to be the biggest threat to make a deep postseason run. The J-Hawks lead  the NIC-10 with a 7-2 record and are 15-3 overall.

The J-Hawks play Chicago Lindblom on Saturday. The Eagles, a science and math academy, are 7-11. On Monday, Jefferson plays Thornton Fractional South and East Moline United Township. TFS is 8-11 and United is 7-9.

Guilford, which is 10-7, is playing four times over the Showcase. The Vikings take on TFS and Lindblom on Saturday and United Township and Batavia (3-11) on Monday.

Auburn, which plays Saturday night in the Chicago Marshall MLK Dream Classic, will play the last game Monday night against Batavia.
