Neal, Gray hope to add their names to champions list

ROCKFORD – Auburn graduates Alexcia Neal and Raelyn Gray are in the semifinals of the NJCAA Division 3 Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals today.

With two wins, they will add their name to an impressive list of junior college national champions.

East alum Noah Friske ran a leg on the NJCAA Division 1 national champion men’s distance relay for Iowa Central Community College.

Rock Valley College’s men’s bowling team took first place in the NJCAA national tournament and Auburn graduate Matt Seigel was a key member.

Rock Valley’s women’s basketball team is seeking the fifth national championship in school history. Gray and Neal have been key contributors throughout the season.

Neal, who went to Jefferson before graduating from Auburn, scored 16 points in last night’s quarterfinal win over Passaic County. She’s averaging 8.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

Gray, a freshman, is averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

The Golden Eagles play in the semifinal game at RVC at 1 p.m. If they win, the championship game is at 6 p.m. tonight. Unfortuntaely, you can only watch the game through the NJCAA livestream. Fans are not allowed at the event because of concerns over the coronavirus.
